How to eat when we are sick?

 

Viruses are circulating around us and it is difficult to escape the symptoms that come with them. Cough, flu, ear infection, gastro… We do not always manage to eat well during this period and yet, I would tell you how to deal with each illness while keeping your figure and not slacking off your efforts.


1. MOUTH NOSE, CLOUDY BRONCHES
When we are sick, we often have trouble breathing. A cold, flu, or sinusitis can inflame the blood vessels inside the nose.

What foods should you choose?
All spices are anti-inflammatory including turmeric so prepare yourself a drink  with this spice, adding powdered ginger and a little honey.

What foods should I avoid?
Dairy products, foods that are too spicy or too sweet can worsen symptoms of congestion.


2. A COUGH OF A Cough or a Sore Throat
Your goal is to soothe the pain in your throat. For this, you need to consume foods with anesthetic and analgesic properties such as honey (known for its restorative properties) or even a lukewarm peppermint tea.

What foods should you choose?
All foods with a soft or creamy texture should be consumed without moderation: soups, soups, purees, scrambled eggs, yogurts.

What foods should I avoid?
Avoid liquids that are too hot or foods with a rough texture (such as crisps, nuts, etc.).
Avoid drinks that can irritate the sore throat: orange juice, grape juice or even  Lemonade.

3. HEADACHE
One of the main causes of headaches is dehydration.

What foods should you choose?
Water and other drinks are only good for your headaches. Drink a liter of water and after 20 minutes your pain should go away.
Be careful caffeine on the contrary decreases hydration so if you want to have a cup of coffee, for each sip also take a glass of water on the side.

What foods should I avoid?
Monosodium glutamate found in soy sauce, Japanese foods, some cheeses, chocolate, tomatoes, grapes and dried fruits. In fact, many studies carried out on mice have found, in the presence of monosodium glutamate, destruction of neurons in the inner layer of their retina. Tyramine also increases blood pressure and can cause headaches. It is a vasodilator that releases histamine and prostaglandins in the body and is able to trigger painful headaches.
Tyramine is found in yeast, herring, salted fish, cheese, chocolate ...

If you regularly have headaches, it is best to see your doctor.


4. FEVER OR A RUNNING NOSE
In winter it is difficult to escape a cold, enjoy good hot showers and hot tea to heal faster.

What foods should you choose?
Ginger tea is ideal. Ginger is known for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Lemon water is also a good treatment for colds.

What foods should I avoid?
Any spicy foods that can cause extra runny nose.


5. SORE EARS or OTITIS
Earaches often appear at the same time as infections of the respiratory system. This is why it is necessary to favor foods that facilitate decongestion.

What foods should you choose?
Chicken soup and all the clear liquids that will decongest by loosening the mucous membranes of the nasal passages.
To decrease inflammation, it is important to consume omega-3 fatty acids  found in salmon and nuts.
Obviously, eat leafy vegetables at will (spinach, salads)  that will strengthen your immune system.

What foods should I avoid?
Avoid pre-packaged or processed industrial foods which will make inflammation worse.

6. A STOMACH or DIARHEA
Whether you have diarrhea from a gastroenteritis virus or have a bad meal for your digestive system, eat the following foods:
Bananas, rice, applesauce, toast. It is also recommended oatmeal, baked chicken or turkey (still skinless), and steamed potatoes.

Avoid all foods containing sorbitol or synthetic sweeteners (such as chewing gum or sugar-free candies) as they are not digestible and may increase diarrhea. Foods that cause bloating should also be avoided: onions, cabbages in general, beans and apples.


7. THE CONSTIPATION
Let us first understand where a conspiracy can come from. It is due to a diet low in fiber found in fruits, vegetables and whole grains. These are foods that stimulate digestion. Fiber intake for an adult should be 25 grams per day.
It is important to also drink a minimum of 6 glasses of water to facilitate digestion. Ideally, change your water, take Hepar.

What foods should you choose?
Apples, pears, broccoli, prunes, fresh figs, beans, nuts such as nuts, whole grain breads ...

What foods should I avoid?
  Dairy products and chocolate are to be avoided. Also watch out for certain medications, which can make constipation worse (some pain relievers, for example).


8. NAUSEA
When we have nausea the goal is to control the stomach acid in our digestive system to soothe this discomfort.
First, eat small portions with low-odor foods.

What foods should you choose?
Always take in small quantities: cereals, toast, lemon (lemon water), ...
Drink ginger tea which will soften and soothe the nausea.

What foods should I avoid?
All fatty and oily foods are to be banned. Also avoid spicy food which could make nausea worse.


9. CURVATURES
To relieve muscle pain, foods high in magnesium or calcium should be preferred.

What foods should you choose?
Foods with a magnesium content such as nuts (nuts, etc.), bananas, beans, leafy vegetables, that is to say endives, cabbages, etc.
For calcium; eat canned salmon, yogurt, leafy greens (spinach, salads…), and orange juice can ease cramps.

What foods should I avoid?
Avoid all foods that can dehydrate and make muscle pain worse. For example alcohol and caffeine.

10.  ITCHY SKIN
If you have a rash or itchy rash, it could be an allergy. Hold a  detailed food diary to find the cause of this rash.

What foods should you choose?
For the health of your skin, it is essential to consume foods rich in protein: oily fish in particular.

What foods should I avoid?
There are many foods that cause itching: like nuts, tomatoes, milk, etc.
